If this furniture is left outside during wet weather some roughness is possible even though it is resistant to rot. The Shorea will smoothen as the furniture weathers to a silver grey color very similar to teak. If the furniture is left outdoors permanently it is recommended that it be treated at least once a year with a treatment oil.
